Le Filou was a French-bred bay colt foaled in 1946 by Vatellor out of Fileuse (Casterari).

The colt, a winner of three races, was injured during his three year-old season and was unable to fulfil his potential.

His influence is as a stallion, especially in the Southern Hemisphere, standing at the Pirongia Stud in New Zealand. He sired Eight 2m Cup horses including the Melbourne Cup winners Light Fingers and Red Handed; as well as four Derby and three Oaks winners. He was leading sire four times between 1961-62 and 1966-67. Le Filou also appears in the pedigrees of many other fine horses as damsire.
