Kahyasi was a bay colt foaled in 1985 by Ile De Bourbon out of Kadissya (Blushing Groom). He was bred and raced by H.H. The Aga Khan and trained at Newmarket by Luca Cumani.
Unraced as a 2-y-o, Kahyasi won his first two races in 1988, latterly the Derby Trial at Lingfield Park, before heading to Epsom. In the Derby jockey Ray Cochrane wore the Aga Khan’s chocolate and green second colours - the first colours worn by Walter Swinburn aboard the 2,000 Guineas winner Doyoun. However, it was Kayhasi who proved victorious and then followed up in the Irish Derby at The Curragh, despite picking up a leg injury. This proved to be with final career win.
At Stud, Kahyasi sired the G1 winners Enzeli, Khalkevi, Vereva and Zainta.
