A Guide to Selling
Saleroom Valuations
Thinking of selling? Click here to fill in our request form to have your item or collection valued.
Prior to the auction, we will recommend auction estimates for each item. A low and high estimate, e.g. £500 - 700, which will be published as a guide price for prospective bidders. In addition, we always recommend protecting each item with a reserve price, this being the minimum figure we would accept as a selling bid at the auction. The reserve price is confidential information between the auctioneer and the seller. A reserve price can never be set higher than the published low auction estimate.
Our Auctions
We hold a minimum of four live sporting memorabilia auctions a year, held as a live stream webcast to a global audience. See our calendar for upcoming auctions.
The Auction Catalogue
The auction catalogue will be available online on our website 21 days before the sale. For additional worldwide exposure, the catalogue is also hosted online at The Saleroom and Invaluable, both art & antiques collectors websites who provide online bidding platforms. Consignors will receive a pre-sale advice email from us confirming their lot numbers. Pre-auction bids will be accepted during the 21-day period for buyers who are unavailable to bid on the auction date.
The Auction
The auction will conducted by a live audio and video streamed webcast from the Graham Budd Auctions website and additionally at The Saleroom and Invaluable. If you would like to see your property being sold there is an option to simply watch the auction, which does not require the formal bidding registration process. The webcast link becomes active on auction day.
In addition to the audience bidding live online, there will be absentee bidders who have left instructions with the auctioneer, while others will participate live with our staff by telephone. Written confirmation of the sale results will be e-mailed to all consignors on the first working day after the sale.
Consignments
When you have received your valuation and you wish to proceed to auction please contact the auctioneer to discuss the consignment.
Please be aware that all entries must be delivered to us two months in advance of the auction date, this being the deadline for entries. If you are unable to deliver your item(s) in person, please contact us and we can advise on how best to arrange delivery. If required, we can arrange transport via a third party carrier, charges will apply.
Settlement
Settlement is normally made by sterling cheque 28 days after the auction, always subject to receipt of payment from the purchaser. However, payments by internet banking and BACS transfer can be requested. Overseas consignors will be paid by international bank transfer.
Vendor Fees
Commission is charged at 15% of the hammer price on all sold lots. We are always prepared to discuss commission terms for the sale of collections or other valuable consignments.
Whilst on our premises your property is insured. Insurance is charged at 1.5% of the hammer price on sold lots.
Although optional, we would always recommend illustrating your lot in the online catalogue. The cost of studio photography is £15 per lot.
Our commission and fees are subject to VAT (currently 20%) where applicable. There are no other hidden auctioneer’s fees, such as minimum commission charge, lotting up fees, unsold commission etc.
In the event that your lot remains unsold at the auction, you will not be charged a commission or insurance fee. However, the illustration fee is payable on sold and unsold lots. It is not uncommon for the auctioneer to receive bids on unsold lots after the auction so week keep the books open for a period of two weeks after the sale and will inform the consignor of any offers forthcoming. Thereafter we write to all consignors with unsold items with our recommendations, including reoffering a lot in the next auction with a reduced estimate and reserve.
