A tooth of the racehorse Meld,

Meld was a British-bred bay filly foaled in 1952 by Alycidon out of Daily Double (Fair Trial). She was owned by Lady Zia Wernher and trained at Newmarket by Cecil Boyd-Rochfort.

1n 1955 she won the Fillies’ Triple Crown with victories in the 1,000 Guineas, the Oaks and the St Leger. With two other wins including the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, the filly contributed to trainer Cecil Boyd-Rochfort winning over £1million in prize money, the first time this had been achieved in Britain.

At Stud, Meld most notably was the dam of the 1966 Derby winner Charllotown.

Like her mother Alycidon, Meld was also chosen as a name for a British Railways “Deltic” locomotive.
