Mouktar was a grey colt foaled in 1982 by Nishapour out of Molitva (Tompion). He was owned bred & owned by HH The Aga Khan and trained in France by Alain de Royer-Dupre.

The colt was only defeated once in a seven-race career and was the top-rated French horse as a juvenile and as a three-year-old. His most important victory was in the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby). Having won the Prix Niel all seemed set for the Arc, but he was withdrawn from the race and retired to stud, where he proved generally disappointing.
