AT NEWMARKET, RETURNING AFTER THEIR VICTORY. G DETTORI BECAME THE FIRST ITALIAN JOCKEY TO WIN AN ENGLISH CLASSIC, further inscribed with the artist's address, 51 by 46cm., in gilt frame, canvas in need of cleaning Provenance: Originally owned by Sir Henry Cecil, the trainer of Bolkonski. The nearer horse in the background if Grundy with Pat Eddery up who would go on to win The Derby. The farther horse in the background is the third placed Dominion. In 1976 Henry Cecil and Gianfranco Dettori repeated their success in the 2,000 Guineas with Wollow. Gianfranco Dettori (born 25th April 1941) was a thirteen times Champion Jockey in Italy and is the father of Frankie Dettori, born 15th December 1970.
