The St Leger Winning Jockey's cap awarded to Pat Eddery for his victory on Silver Patriarch in 1997, by T Frost of Bawtry, red silk with gilt-wire and 'jewelled' horse shoes, race inscription , piping and tassel Having been beaten a short-head in The Derby, Silver Patriarch gained Classic race compensation with a win in the St Leger. The grey colt was bred and owned by Mr Peter Winfield and trained at Arundel by John Dunlop. This was also Pat Eddery's 4,000th career winner and his fourth win in the Doncaster classic, the previous winners being Moon Madness (1986), Toulon (1991) & Moonax (1994). Silver Patriarch was a Peter Winfield Irish home-bred grey colt (1994) by Saddlers' Hall out of Early Rising (Grey Dawn). He was successful in two other G1 races, the Coronation Cup and the Gran Premio del Jockey-Club. When retired he became a National Hunt sire. His best progeny were Silver By Nature who won two Graded steeplechases; and Carrickboy who won the Byrne Group Plate at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival.
