Memorabilia relating to Lester Finch and the F.A. England Tour to South Africa 16th May 1939 to 13th July 1939, selection includes programmes v Southern Transvaal 3rd June 1939, v South Africa 1st June 1939 signed to front by Finch; his FA embroidered tour blazer badge, official report re: tour, splits to horizontal folds; original b & w photographs from tour showing team members at various tourist attractions, good condition, some with ink annotations, (16) Lester Finch born 1909-95 was one of the leading amateur players of his period, he played and managed Barnet from 1928-55, making 476 appearances, scoring 226 goals. He also played many times for England Amateur team, touring New Zealand and Australia 1937 and South Africa 1939 with England FA. He won Amateur Cup with Barnet 1945-46 and played one full wartime International v Wales 1941. During war period he guested for Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea. One of the last breed of truly amateur players.
