A scarce Aberdare Athletic Football Club prospectus for their bid to be elected as a founder-member of Football League Division Three (South) in season 1921-22, issued by the Welsh club and providing details regarding the club’s finances, directors, ground and facilities, with photographs signed in ink by their Secretary campaigning cubs in the First and Second Division to vote for their entry to the Football League, which proved to be successful after gaining 38 votes; sold together with a programme for Aberdare Athletic v Cardiff City (presumably a friendly) 17th February 1921 (2)Charlton Athletic with 30 votes were elected alongside Aberdare into the newly Formed FL Div 3 (South). In 1920-21 Aberdare had finished 2nd in the Welsh Section of the Southern League 20/21. However the club’s slick electoral skills made them the choice of Football League members over rival club Barry AFC who were the Welsh Southern League Champions but whose application failed. Aberdare Athletic remained in the 3rd Division South until 1926-27 when they dropped out and were replaced by Torquay United. The process was controversial and only settled after a recount following a tie of votes, with one vote for Aberdare deemed by scrutineers to be a spoilt ballot paper.
