A racing plate worn by Doricles, winner of the 1901 Doncaster St Leger Stakes, mounted on a yellow and black coloured tinplate sheet, owner L de Rothschild Esq., 12 x 11.2 cm. Doricles (1898-1916) trained at Palace House, Newmarket by Alfred Hayhoe, ran only twice as a two-year-old but showed considerable promise and went on to contest all three legs of the 1901 Triple Crown. After finishing second in the 2,000 Guineas and seventh in the Derby, he won his next three races, culminating in a 40-1 victory in the St Leger under Kempton Cannon in a new record time for the race. He was retired to stud in France.
