A racing plate worn by Sharpo, winning the 1982 William Hill Sprint Championship at York, mounted on a wooden board with a framed colour print above, 46.7 x 36.2 cm. Sharpo (1977-94) was the Champion British sprinter of 1982 and won seven races and more than ?230,000 in prize money during a career restricted by his preference for soft ground. Trained by Jeremy Tree and ridden to most of his successes by Pat Eddery, he won York's Nunthorpe Stakes (then the William Hill Sprint Championship) three times from 1980 and both the July Cup and Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp in 1982. He was a success at stud, siring the winners of 216 races.
