A practicing dentist Dr MacDonald, entered the long jump and high jump as well as his best discipline the triple jump at the London 1908 Olympic Games. He took silver in the triple jump recording 14.76m, only bettered by Great Britain's Tim Ahearne whose 14.92m was a new Olympic Record.
