Liverpool Football Club graphic from the Timeline Series that hung in the old Main Stand Lounges, 1961 WHERE MARATHONS END with a photographic image of the British marathon runner Ron Hill accompanied by text reading ANFIELD MARKED THE FINISH LINE OF THE LIVERPOOL CITY MARATHON FROM THE 1920s ONWARDS. IN AUGUST 1961, THE GREAT RON HILL MADE HIS MARATHON DEBUT AT LIVERPOOL, CROSSING THE LINE IN FRONT OF AN EXCITED ANFIELD TO WIN THE RACE IN 2 HOURS, 24 MINUTES. HE WENT ON TO SMASH THE WORLD MARATHON RECORD IN THE 1970 COMMONWEALTH GAMES, mounted under glass in a black picture frame, 60 by 42cm.; sold with a certificate of authenticity issued by Liverpool Football Club
