Wilkes & Son back-and-white archival print, Wilkes & Son copyright stamp The 1936 All-Indian team (pictured vs Worcestershire) were the first India side to play a test series in England, having played a single Test at Lord's in 1932. They lost the series 2-0, earning a draw at Old Trafford after centuries by Vijay Merchant and Mushtaq Ali. India, captained by the Maharajkumar of Vizianagram (known as ''Vizzy'') and who was knighted between the first two Tests, only won four of the 28 matches.
