The 1972 NASL Soccer Bowl Championship Ring awarded to the New York Cosmos equipment manager Charles Martinelli, the gold ring inscribed NASL CHAMPIONS RING, 1972, NEW YORK COSMOS, and also bearing the club logo New York Cosmos claimed their first Soccer Bowl when beating the St Louis Stars 2-1 at the Hofstra Stadium, Hempstead, New York. The Cosmos goals were scored by Randy Horton & the Czech 1962 World Cup runner-up Josef Jelinek who sealed the victory with a penalty kick. The match was played in soaking rain.
