London 2012 Olympic Stadium athletics track Lane No.1 marking, a section of the red vulcanized rubber dual layer athletics track installed by the Italian manufacturer Mondo, removed from its position at the termination of the sprint track beyond the 100m & 110m (hurdles) starts, bearing the 'No.1' lane marking in white in the ''2012Headline'' typeface designed by Gareth Hague for the London 2012 Games, the first time that an Olympic running track was marked with anything other than generic Arabic numerals, a top corner of the section also bearing the curved inner white line marking from the 400m round track's No.9 lane as it intersected the sprint track turning in for the home straight, measurement approx. 110 by 90cm., as such a smaller section than the other lane markers being offered at this auction; sold with a certificate of authenticity issued by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and the Mayor of Newham (2) Lane 1 of the nine lane track was rarely used in athletics event ran in lanes from start to finish, the exceptions being some qualification heats featuring a field of nine. Also Lane 1 was used in the final of the men's 4 x 400m Relay when South Africa (Shaun de Jager, Willem de Beer, Louis van Zyl & Oscar Pistorius) were reinstated following a successful protest that one of their athletes had been tripped in the qualification heat, resulting in a nine team final. However, it goes without saying that lane 1 saw the majority of traffic in track events over 400m.
