A Billy Walker gold medal bracelet, a group of five medals awarded to Walker during his football career, later used to form a gold fitted bracelet and chain, the medals comprising: i) a 9ct. gold Birmingham County F.A. Charity Cup medal, undated ii) a 15ct. gold Staffordshire F.A. annual Charity Match medal 1907-08, named to J.M. Maxwell iii) a 15ct. gold Staffordshire F.A.Senior Cup winner's medal 1901, inscribed WON BY W. WANDERERS, G. WALKER iv) a 9ct. gold Football League representative medal, inscribed THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, ENGLAND v IRELAND, BELFAST, OCTOBER 1st 1921, W.H. WALKER, ASTON VILLA F.C. v) a 9ct. gold Football League representative medal, inscribed THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, ENGLAND v IRELAND, CELTIC PARK, BELFAST, OCTOBER 9th 1926 The first medal for the Birmingham Charity Cup is undated. However, the cigarette case being offered as lot 759 informs us that Billy Walker was part of the winning team in 1920, 1923, 1924, 1928, 1929 & 1930. The second medal, awarded for the Charity Match in 1907-08, is named to J M Maxwell. This may be the Scottish winger James M. Maxwell who Sheffield Wednesday signed from Kilmarnock. In May 1908 he transferred to Woolwich Arsenal. Maxwell was killed in action serving with the Black Watch in the Samarrah Offensive on 21st April 1917. With his connections to Wednesday it is plausible that Billy Walker later acquired Maxwell's medal from his widow or family in the 1930s. The third medal was won by George Walker of Wolverhampton Wanderers who was Billy Walker's father. Born in Wednesbury, the same as Billy, George Walker later played for Crystal Palace and New Brompton (Gillingham). The fourth & fifth medals were awarded to Billy Walker for representing the Football League in matches versus the Irish Football League. The Football League won the 1921 match 1-0 and the 1926 game 6-1.
