Mal Donaghy's Manchester United 1991 European Cup Winners' Cup winner's medal, a continental yellow-medal, signed Kramer, inscribed UEFA, COUPE DES VAINQUEURS DE COUPE EUROPEENNE, 1991, in original fitted case Manchester United defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the final of the 1990-91 European Cup Winners' Cup. The match was played at Feijenoord's stadium in Rotterdam on 15th May and Mark Hughes scored both the United goals. Mal Donaghy was an unused substitute. Having spent most of his early career at Luton Town, Alex Ferguson showed enormous trust in his abilities by paying ?650,00 to bring him to Old Trafford in October 1988, a huge sum at that time for a player north of 30. Donaghy rewarded the decision with characteristic solid and reliable performances. His opportunities did however become more limited as time progressed and he missed out on the chance of playing in a F.A. Cup final in 1990, but did make the subs bench for the 1991 European Cup Winners' Cup final and qualified therefore for a medal presentation.
