£1,000 - £1,500
A 1906-07 Football League Division One runners-up medal awarded to the Bristol City goalkeeper Harry Clay, gold, unhallmarked, the obverse with club crest and inscribed BRISTOL CITY FOOTBALL CLUB, the reverse inscribed FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 1, RUNNERS UP, 1906-7, H.CLAY Harry Clay largely lost his place this season to William Demmery and only started 8 matches, a figure insufficient to be awarded a medal. It is believed therefore that this medal is semi-official and was probably an extra commissioned to order by the football club in recognition of Clay's contribution to their highest ever League position. The team finished runners up to Newcastle United in Football League Division One with a total of 48 points, three points behind the Champions, and recorded 20 League victories.
