A gold, enamel & horse hair bracelet being a gift from the Champion National Hunt Jockey Frank Wootton following the win of Max in the 1921 Galway Plate Steeplechase, centrally designed as a paddock gate and inscribed MAX, GALWAY PLATE, AUGUST, 1921, the clasp inscribed FROM FRANK WOOTTON TO MRS CROFT The Australian-born Frank Wootton was a 'boy-wonder.' He rode his first winner aged 9, his first when moving to England aged 13. Aged 16 he also became the youngest ever Champion Jockey. Eventually weight problems forced Wootton to ride under National Hunt Rules and in 1921 he became the only jockey in history to be Champion on the flat and over the sticks. He later trained over 200 National Hunt winners.
