Colin McCool's 'Baggy Green' cricket cap from the Australian 'invincibles' Tour of England in 1948, by Farmer's of Sydney, embroidered Australian national crest and inscribed 1948, the interior label inscribed in ink C. McCOOL; sold together with McCool's green and gold Australia neck tie (2) Colin McCool was born in Paddington, Sydney, 9th December 1916. The right-hand bat and leg break googly bowler played in 14 Tests for Australia top scoring with 104 not out and with a best bowling analysis of 5 for 41. During the 1948 Tour, McCool took 57 wickets at an average of 17.82. However, with England agreeing to have a new ball available after every 55 overs, more frequently than the old rule of replacing the ball after every 200 runs, fast bowling dominated over spin. As a result, McCool did not play in the Tests, but was used heavily in the tour matches so the leading pacemen could conserve their energy for the important matches. Provenance: Given by Colin McCool to the Somerset CCC Secretary Richard Robinson. McCool played for Somerset between 1956 and 1960.
