A cricket presentation in 1862 by the British Army stationed in Rangoon, in the form of an illuminated address in watercolour & pen an ink inscribed: 'Presented to Sergt. F. Wright by the Members of letter F Company's Cricket Club, as a Mark of their Appreciation of his Services, during the time he was Captain of the Club!!! Rangoon, December the 5th 1862.', above the address, the crown, bugle and regimental title of the 1st Battalion 68th Durham Light Infantry Regiment of Foot, to the left the Queen's Colour, to the right the Regimental Colour of dark green with Battle Honours, including Inkerman where, in 1854, Private John Byrne of the 68th, won the first Victoria Cross to be awarded during the Crimean campaign, in original wooden frame, glazed, 48 by 43cm., 19 by 17in. Surely a unique presentation relating to cricket in Rangoon in the 19th century, and of early date being two years before the introduction of over-arm bowling and recorded results through John Wisden's Cricketers' Almanack, three years before W.G. Grace made his debut in First-Class cricket, and eleven years before the introduction of qualification rules for players in 1873 and the County Championship of that year.
