The hooves of Mother Siegel the dam of the royal Derby winner Minoru incorporated into the design of an umbrella stand, the four hooves with metal mounts and connected to a wrought iron frame, one of the hoof mounts inscribed MOTHER SIEGEL, DAM OF MINORU, WINNER OF THE EPSOM DERBY AND TWO THOUSAND GUINEAS, height 53.5cm., 21in. Mother Siegel was a bay filly foaled in 1897. She had five live foals, three of which were winners and including the 1906 brown colt Minoru (by Cyllene) who was leased to King Edward VII and won the Derby and 2,000 Guineas in 1909. Minoru won five other races comprising including the St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot and the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
