The hooves of the double-classic winning filly Cherry Lass incorporated into the design of a waste paper bin, the four hooves with electroplated mounts and connected to an electroplated frame to hold a tooled-leather waste paper bin, one of the hoof mounts inscribed CHERRY LASS, WINNER OF THE OAKS IN RECORD TIME, 2 MINUTES 38 SECONDS, AND OF THE 1,000 GUINEAS 1905, one hoof now detached from its mount, height 52cm., 20 1/2in. Cherry Lass was a bay filly foaled in 1902 by the Triple Crown winner Isinglass out of Black Cherry and was a half-sister to Black Arrow (see lot 51). In 1905 she won both the 1,000 Guineas and the Oaks before failing in a bid to win the fillies' Triple Crown by finishing a creditable third in the St Leger. Cherry Lass won a total of 10 races including the Anglesey Stakes at The Curragh, the Free Handicap at Newmarket, the St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot, the Duchess of York Stakes at Hurst Park, the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood and the Newmarket Oaks.
