A 9ct. gold FA. Cup winner's medal, 1952, the reverse inscribed THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION , CHALLENGE CUP, WINNERS, A. MCMICHAEL, NEWCASTLE UNITED, 1952, in original fitted case APPENDIX Alf McMichael (Newcastle United & Northern Ireland) Lots 330 to 347 Alf McMichael was born in Belfast, 1st October 1927. Newcastle United signed the full back from Linfield in September 1949 and he stayed with the Magpies for the rest of his career and made over 400 appearances before his retirement in 1962. As a member of Newcastle's outstanding team of the 1950s McMichael enjoyed many highlights, none more so than when he won his F.A. Cup winner's medal in 1952. McMichael remains Newcastle's most capper player, having been selected for 40 Northern Ireland internationals during his time at St James' Park. He also represented his country at the 1958 World Cup. FOOTNOTE FOR LOT 330 In the 1952 F.A. Cup final at Wembley, Newcastle United defeated Arsenal 1-0. The winning goal was scored by the Chilean George Robledo.
