As Pele's last full year of football was coming to an end he began performing at ever greater levels seemingly determined to leave the game whilst still at the peak of his powers, On 26th June 1977 Pele scored a hat-trick during the 5-2 win over Elton John's team Los Angeles Aztecs. The other Cosmos scorers were Ramon Mifflin and Vito Dimitrijevic. Pele's leadership and inspiration was evident as he orchestrated wave after wave of attacks upon a beleaguered Aztecs defence. The capacity crowd cheered throughout the high adrenalin game.
