Carnegie was a bay colt foaled in 1991 by Sadler’s Wells out of Detroit (Riverman). He was bred at the Swettenham Stud, owned by HE Sheikh Mohammed and trained in France by Andre Fabre. The colt won 7 of his 13 races. The colt’s most notable victory was in the 1994 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and in 1995 he achieved a further G1 success in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.

This shoe was worn when Carnegie finished 3rd in the 1995 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Belmont Park behind Northern Spur and Freedom Cry.

At stud Darley used Carnegie as a shuttle stallion and the biggest successes came in the southern hemisphere. His most notable progeny was perhaps the racemare Tuesday Joy who won four G1 races in Australia and nearly £1.3 million in prize money.
