The Cheltenham Gold Cup won by the Vincent O'Brien trained Cottage Rake in 1948, an 18ct. gold trophy cup, hallmarked Dublin, 1948, being in the form of a scale replica of the original 1924 Cheltenham Gold Cup trophy created by Solomon Blanckensee & Sons and commissioned by Simmons of Chesterfield, the cup with horse head handles, the body inscribed THE CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP, REPLICA, WON BY, “COTTAGE RAKE”, 4th MARCH 1948, TRAINED BY, M. VINCENT O'BRIEN, RIDDEN BY, AUBREY BRABAZON, the foot further inscribed OWNED BY, MR. & MRS. F. L. VICKERMAN, height 9.5cm., width across handles 11.5cm., weight 213gr., in original fitted case stamped Weir & Sons (Dublin) Ltd., Grafton Street & Wicklow Street, Dublin, lacking the original plinth, the cup in fine condition.
