“The Ballyjokers Cup” a 1930s silver trophy for the Stable Lads' Boxing Tournament,
hallmarked Charles Boyton, London, 1938, the bowl inscribed THE BALLYJOKER CUP, THE 18th STABLE LADS' BOXING TOURNAMENT, IN AID OF St DUNSTAN'S, PRESENTED BY MRS J.F. CEARNS, above three handles and a tapering column, the foot fitted to an ebonised plinth, height of trophy 39cm., width across bowl 21cm., weight 1,003gr., overall height on base 52cm.
Mrs J F Cearns was the wife of Will Cearns, the Chairman of West Ham United Football Club, Managing Director of Wimbledon [Greyhound] Stadium and known as the “Cockney Millionaire.” The 18th annual Stables Lad's Charity Boxing tournament took place in 1939.
