A group of seven portraits of 18th century racehorses after Thomas Spencer (1700-1763) and others,
from a Series of engraved and etched plates published by Thomas Butler and John Cheny between 1740 and 1753, hand-coloured, ecah printed with extensive details of the horse's pedigree and achievements, subjects comprising: i) Mr Martindale's Sedbury, ii) the Duke of Bolton's Fearnought, iii) the Earl of Portmore's Fox, iv) the Duke of Devonshire's Childers, v) the Duke of Bolton's Straling, vi) Mr Marmaduke Wyvill's Volunteer and vii) Lord Onslow's Victorious, this example badly discoloured, the others in good condition, the first six uniformly framed & glazed, almost square, approx. 36cm. sq., (7).
