Collection of telegrams, letters and a 'Good Luck' horseshoe from the Mrs Marion Glenister Collection, owner of racehorse Nimbus, comprising group of congratulatory telegrams sent to Mrs Marion Glenister following the victories of her colt Nimbus in the 1949 Derby and 2,000 Guineas, of historical value and including an example sent to Mrs Glenister from HH The Aga Khan after the Derby victory; congratulatory letters sent to Mrs Marion Glenister the owner of Nimbus winner of the 1949 Derby, of historical value, over 50 letters congratulations plus some begging for money!, also letters from artists and photographers pitching to paint/photograph her Classic winning horse and a 'Good Luck' horseshoe sent to Mrs Marion Glenister the owner of Nimbus before the 1949 Derby, lucky indeed!, 32 by 26cm., sold together with various original racing photographs originally owned by the Newmarket-racehorse trainer George Colling, circa 1940s, including the horses Nimbus, Las Vegas, Sicaro et al., sold together with Official Photo Finish print of Nimbus and Charlie Elliott beating Abernant and Sir Gordon Richards in the 1949 2,000 Guineas, P.A.-Reuter Photo stamped "specimen print", 6 by 8in. b&w, backstamp and caption and miscellany of of old racing books, breeding, racing, historical etc., earliest publication date 1919; the lot also including a set of four framed book plates of the Vale of Aylesbury Steeplechase, 20 by 26cm.; an original press photograph of Desert Orchid and Simon Sherwood in the 1989 Cheltenham Gold Cup, (qty).

Provenance: From the Collection of the Newmarket trainer George Scott Colling (1904-1959); and the Collection of Mrs Marion Glenister, owner of Nimbus, the 1949 Derby & 2,000 Guineas winner, being material subsequently acquired at Graham Budd Auctions. George Colling was the son of R W Colling and brother to Jack, a famous racing dynasty in the history of the turf.
