Watercolour by Harry Bingham Neilson (British, 1861-1941) of the great steeplechaser Golden Miller,
signed and titled, traces of pencil, head and shoulders portrait, 28 by 23.5cm., framed & glazed, overall, 31 by 26cm., good condition.
H.B. Neilson was chiefly an illustrator for children's books. His most notable works were Mr Fox's Hunt Breakfast on Xmas Day (1897) and the Fox's Frolic (1917). Neilson was a keen horse rider. This would be one of his later works and would date to circa 1934, the year Golden Miller won the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand National in the same season.
