Iktamal was an American-bred chestnut colt foaled in 1992 by Danzig Connection out of Crystal Cup (Nijinsky). He was trained at Newmarket by Ed Dunlop.
The colt was a high-class sprinter at 6f who could also get 7f well. His crowning glory was victory in the Haydock Sprint Cup in 1996. Six other career victories included the Beeswing Stakes.
After his race career he was exported to the Summerhill Stud in South Africa to take up stallion duties.
