Niche was a chestnut filly foaled in 1981 by Risk Me out of Cubby Hole (Town and Country). She was bred at the Highclere Stud, owned by the Earl of Carnarvon and trained by Richard Hannon Sr.

Niche recorded six career victories including the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Lowther Stakes, the Nell Gwyn Stakes and the Falmouth Stakes. In the 1984 1000 Guineas the filly finished a 1/2L second to Sayyedati.

Tragically Niche met with an untimely death at home when in training for the Prix Jacques Le Marois.
