This extremely rare cap was presented to Willie MacCartney for international debut and only full international appearance for Scotland. In the match against Ireland played on 1st March 1902 at Grosvenor Park, Belfast, Scotland defeated Ireland 5-1
Lot 501 relates to the career of Scotland International and Hibernian outside right Willie McCartney William McCartney was born in Newmilns Ayrshire, he turned professional in 1898 before joining Hibernian where he made two Scottish League appearance, he broke his leg during the 1901-02 season meaning he missed out playing in the 1902 Scottish Cup final against Celtic, he recovered from his break to play in the 1902-03 League Championship-winning season and was later described as he best forward Hibs had had. He had further spells with Manchester United and West Ham United before retuning to Scotland to play for Clyde.
