Clyde Purnell a London 1908 Olympic Games white Great Britain cap, white fabric with embroidered Great Britain flag, silk-lined interior, interior in poor condition, wear and yellowing, stained exterior 

Clyde Purnell was born on 14th May in Ryde, Isle of Wight, he was a keen sportsman. He captained the Olympic Sporting Club at just 18 and played in Amateur Cup finals, winning both runners-up and winners medals. He was a member of the English amateur team that represented Great Britain at the 1908 Summer Olympics winning the gold medal in the football tournament. In the first round match against Sweden, Great Britain defeated Sweden 12-1, Purnell scoring appearing in the final against Denmark, helping his side with a 2-0 win.
