.750 gold medal for the Trofeo O. Barassi (Italian-English Amateur League Cup) in 1972, the obverse with a named portrait of Ottorino Barassi, the reverse inscribed TROFEO O. BARASSI, 1972, diameter 25mm., weight 9gr. The Trofeo Ottorino Barassi was as short-lived competition that was contested between 1968 and 1976. It was named after the important Italian and FIFA football administrator Ottorino Barassi. The annual fixture played over two home and away legs was for the teams who had won the Amateur Cup Finals in Italy and England.Leytonstone FC were the first champions of the competition in 1968. The winners in 1972 were Hendon FC who defeated Unione Valdinievole 3-1 on aggregate. The 1974 tournament was not played following the abolition of the F.A. Amateur Cup that year, Thereafter, and for the final two seasons in the competition’s history, the English representative became the champions of the Second Division of the Isthmian League. The final winners were Soresinese, the only time an Italian team were outright winners – Almas Roma having shared the trophy with North Shields following a 2-2 agg. draw in 1969.Provenance: by family descent The following lots 428 to 460 were awarded to Italian Sports Official Ottorino Barassi.
