Tom Murphy (British, b.1949), Captain Noel Chavasse VC plus Bar VC Memorial statue maquette, hollow bronzed fibreglass, edition 7 of 10, modelled as three soldiers upon a tapered hollow plinth base, 65 x 72 x 36cm., bears minor chips and wear; sold with a framed set of six £1 pound postal stamps, one stamp featuring Captain Noel Chavasse, the others featuring Liverpool, framed and glazed, 40 x 35cm., (2) Maquette for a monumental three figure sculpture now in Abercromby Square, University of Liverpool. A bronze version of the maquette was commissioned by Trinity College, Oxford University. Captain Noel Chavasse VC plus BAR was possibly the most famous medial doctor of WWI, who died in action. His second VC was awarded posthumously. Note: the lot has to be collect from our Wellingborough premises only. Tom Murphy is an award-winning painter and renowned sculptor of many famous sculptures and memorial works on display through the world, His iconic sculpture of Bill Shankly and Dixie Dean started a fashion of sports sculptures around the UK and abroad. After looking at the rare sculptures and artefacts that he has made available for auction, we can see, for the very first time, the original design and development of many renowned sport sculptures via Tom Murphy’s unique original sketches, maquettes and design concept. This is the first time to market for these many one-off unique works. Tom has created more than 40 monumental sculptures many of them associated to sport.
