Lawn Tennis 'Tennis Match at Manchester' print featuring B.N. Akroyd in a central position surrounded by various real tennis champions of the day, Marshall, Heathcote and Tompkins, mounted, 52 by 40.5cm., sold with a white metal plaque from the Manchester Tennis & Racquet Week 1883 trophy, engraved MANCHESTER TENNIS & RACQUET WEEK 1883 TENNIS HANDICAP 1ST PRIZE WON BY B.N. AKROYD, 10 by 2.5cm., (2) B.N. Akroyd was a competitor in the first Wimbledon Championships in 1877. He won his first round match against G. Nichol, but lost in the second round to W. Marshall, who made it to the final round. Akroyd was a real tennis member of the Manchester Racquet Club and won the handicap singles in 1883. Only the above plaque remains. Each bearing minor wear.
