Neil Webb: cap and shirt for the 1,000th footballer to play for England, a framed & glazed display housing Neil Webb's debut England cap and match-worn shirt for the international friendly match v West Germany played in Dusseldorf 9th September 1987, the blue cap inscribed WEST GERMANY and dated 1987-88, mounted over a red No.14 jersey, Umbro, short-sleeved, overall 62 by 76 by 7cm. Nottingham Forest's Neil Webb became the 1,000th player to appear for England when he replaced Glenn Hoddle as a 64th minute substitute in the match v West Germany played at the Rheinstadion, Stockum, Dusseldorf, 9th September 1987. West Germany won the game 3-1, Lineker scoring England's consolation goal. Neil Webb was born in Reading 30th July 1963 and played primarily as a midfielder, sometime in defence. He began his career at Reading where he became the club's youngest League goalscorer aged 16; and then at Portsmouth he won a Third Division Championship medal. In June 1985 Brian Clough brought Webb to Nottingham Forest for a fee of £250,00. At Forest he was a member of the 1989 League Cup winning team and also met the attention of England manager Bobby Robson. At international level Webb made 26 appearances and scored three goals, and was a member of the 1990 World Cup and 1988 and 1992 European Championship squads. In July 1989 Neil Webb transferred to Alex Ferguson's Manchester United for £1.5million. At Old Trafford he won four winner's medals in the F.A. Cup, League Cup, European Cup Winners' Cup and the Super Cup.
