Very scarce photograph of the Woolwich Arsenal team from their first season in the Football League in 1893-94, photographed at the Manor Ground, Plumstead, sepia-toned 5 by 7cm., matted, hand written identification of players, Powell, Williams, Gemmell, Howat, Buist, Devine, Crawford, Booth, Jeffries [sic] Shaw and Elliott, overall 8 by 9.5cm., very good condition Provenance: Christie's Scotland, Football Memorabilia, 20th November 1996, Lot 327 It has been suggested that the image was prior to the match against Stoke on 29th April 1893 which was the last game that the club played under Royal Arsenal. It also features in the 1893-94 Woolwich & District Football Handbook.
