Photograph of the racehorse King's Beeches with the jockey Manny Mercer up, by R Anscomb of Newmarket, b&w 7 by 9in., printed legend, framed & glazed, 27 by 32cm. Manny Mercer was brother to Joe Mercer and stable jockey to George Colling at Newmarket. He was spoken in the same light as Lester Piggott such was his talent, but tragically died aged 30 in 1959 at Ascot races. Trainer George Colling died in the same year. Lots 272 to 294 From the Collection of the Newmarket trainer George Scott Colling (1904-1959); and the Collection of Mrs Marion Glenister, owner of Nimbus, the 1949 Derby & 2,000 Guineas winner, being material subsequently acquired at Graham Budd Auctions. George Colling was the son of R W Colling and brother to Jack, a famous racing dynasty in the history of the turf.
