The winning jockey’s trophy presented to Pat Eddery for the victory on Moonax in the 1994 Prix Royal Oak (French St Leger) at Longchamp, in the form of a French silver plated octagonal salver by Mellerio of Paris, engraved with a racehorse & jockey, inscribed with race details, diameter 27cm., surface scratches and scuffing Moonax was an Irish bred chestnut colt (1991) by Caerleon out of Moonsilk (Solinus). He was owned by Sheikh Mohammed and trained by Barry Hills at the South Bank stables in Lambourn. The previous month Moonax had won the St Leger at Doncaster under Pat Eddery. He later became a National Hunt sire. Pat Eddery won the Royal Oak on two other occasions on Old Country (1983) and Raintrap (1993). See lots 192 and 219.
