A gift from Lavinia, Duchess of Norfolk to the jockey Pat Eddery commemorating the victory of her horse Moon Madness in the 1986 St Leger at Doncaster, in the form of an antique Victorian silver hot water jug, hallmarked William & George Sissons, London, 1877, the lid set with a laurel wreath, the body inscribed MOON MADNESS, ST LEGER 1986, WITH GRATEFUL THANKS and then engraved with the Duchess's facsimile signature, height 23cm., good condition; sold together with a framed colour photograph of Moon Madness being held by the Duchess of Norfolk (2) Moon Madness was bred and owned by Lavinia, Duchess of Norfolk. He was a chestnut colt (1983) by Vitiges out of Castle Moon (Kalamoun). The St Leger winner recorded other major wins in the King George V Stakes, Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, Geoffrey Freer Stakes, Cumberland Lodge Stakes and the Yorkshire Cup. This was the first of four wins for Pat Eddery in the oldest Classic, his subsequent victories being on Toulon, Moonax and Silver Patriarch.
