Ex-Pelé Collection: MasterCard World Football Team of the 20th Century trophy presented to Pelé, in the form of a glass pillar plaque by Tiffany & Co., Made in Japan, laser etched with a football, the Mastercard logo and inscribed "WORLD FOOTBALL TEAM OF THE 20TH CENTURY", 26.5 by 12.5cm. Provenance: The Pelé Collection. Julien’s Auctions, London, 7th to 9th June 2016, as lot 1405. The prestigious World Team of the 20th Century, sponsored by MasterCard, was announced on 10th June 1998 in conjunction with the Opening Ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in France. The team was chosen in four-three-three formation and comprised: Goalkeeper Lev Yashin; defenders Carlos Alberto, Franz Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore and Nilton Santos; midfielders Johan Cruyff, Alfredo Di Stefano and Michel Platini; and forwards Garrincha, Diego Maradona and Pelé.
