Ex-Pelé Collection: Santos FC Merit of the Fishmongers medal bestowed to Pelé 16th November 1977, in gilt and enamel, the obverse designed with a fish in low relief and the Santos FC logo in enamel, the reverse inscribed "Medalha Mérito dos Peixeiros/ Conferida de Acôrdo Com O Artigo 103 Dos Estatutos Sociais / Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pelé)/ 16-11-77", diameter 59mm., areas of wear and marks to gold toning; sold with the Santos FC diploma detailing the bestowal to Pelé, 31 by 22cm. (2) The Medalha Mérito dos Peixeiros (Merit of the Fishmongers Medal) is the highest individual honour that Santos FC bestows upon its current or former players, and awarded for outstanding career achievements. The medal is accompanied by a diploma detailing Santos FC’s award of the medal on 16th November 1977 upon Pelé’s retirement from professional football after his spell at New York Cosmos.
