Ex-Pelé Collection: Sporting Merit medal awarded to Pelé by the Governor of Jalisco, Mexico, in recognition of Brazil’s third World Cup title in 1970, In gilt, the obverse featuring the Jalisco Coat of Arms with lettering that reads "Lic. FCO. Medina Ascensio/ Gobernador del edo.", the reverse engraved "Jalisco Al Merito Deportivo [Jalisco Sports Merit]/ de Edson Arantes do Nascimento 'Pele'/ 1970.", with bar and brooch fitting, diameter 41mm. Jalisco Stadium was one of five stadiums in five different cities that were selected to host the 1970 World Cup matches. Pelé won his third World Cup winner’s medal when Brazil defeated Italy 4-1 in the Final in Mexico City. Provenance: The Pelé Collection. Julien’s Auctions, London, 7th to 9th June 2016, as lot 1003.
