Tribute to Antony F Wilding: On 13th November 1885 F H Ayres of Aldersgate St., London, took out patent number 2721 for “tennis frames built up with layers or pieces of cane”, Ayres eventually introduced a very special racket frame with became the preferred tennis racket of Wimbledon Champion Anthony F Wilding. This racket with a fine frame, but distressed strings, dates to the early 1900s and is marked F H Ayres and “patent” but is not marked Wilding but is essentially the same frame. It has a small rounded handle and uses beautiful woods. Sold together with book “On the Court and Off” 1912, av. and an excellent photo card by Edwin Trim, (3)
