Original artwork for a cartoon featuring the England and Australia cricketers George Hirst and Monty Noble, and relating the 1903-04 Ashes series, signed by the artist A.S.M. titled "The Test" and captioned in pencil "Come on Noble my boy! Make a race of it", the image portraying the two cricketers competing in a cross-country steeplechase having passed the first and second markers (test matches), other inscriptions, pen and ink, the image 44 by 36cm., mounted framed and glazed, overall 62 by 52cm. England had won the first two test's of the Ashe's series, winning at Sydney by five wickets and in Melbourne by 185 runs, hence the cartoonist goading the Australian's. However you should be careful what you wish for as Australia responded by winning the third test at Adelaide by 216 runs, however England won an exciting series 3-2.
