1938 F.A. Charity Shield runners-up medal awarded to Preston North End's goalkeeper George "Harry" Holdcroft, in 9ct. gold, date mark for 1938, manufactured by Vaughton's of Birmingham, in original case of issue, 24gr., 30 by 30 mm. The 1938 Charity Shield was held at Highbury on 26th September 1938, Arsenal beat Preston North End 2-1. The competition would not be held again until 1948 due to World War II. Harry Holdcroft (Preston North End, Everton and England goalkeeper) Lots 641 to 665 George Henry Holdcroft (known as Harry) 1909 – 1983 played for Port Vale and Darlington before moving to Everton and was part of their chamionship winning squad of 1931-1932 but he is perhaps best known for his time at Preston North End making  172 consecutive appearances (263 in total) helping the Lambs to promotion in 1933-34. He also kept a clean sheet in their 1938 FA Cup final victory over Huddersfield town. Holdcroft was selected to play for England twice in the 1936 Home Internationals against Wales and Ireland.
